Question about Japanese revanchism
Question about Japanese revanchism
Before the start of the Great Depression, was Japan generally pleased with the size of its own territory and its empire's territory? Or did it already want to expand even further even before the start of the Great Depression in 1929?

Thanks for this book recommendation! It's a huge shame that this book isn't actually available for free online, though.

Have you checked WorldCat to see if it is in a library near you?
Re: Question about Japanese revanchism
The answer to the question, simply, is NO, they were not happy with the size of their empire prior to 1929 & the Great Depression--far from it--hence their machinations in Mongolia/Manchuria, assassination of the warlord Chang Tso-lin in 1928, etc.
If they were not already showing clear signs of expansion, and aggressive expansion at that, the West would not have been so concerned with attempts at limiting the Japanese military machine (e.g., London Treaty of 1930, etc.).
However, Beasley is a superb English-language source, and as good a place to start as any.
