Captain K. Uchida, DesDiv 24, Nanjing, March 1927

I have a citation that Captain K. Uchida was the commanding officer of the three destroyers at Nanjing on March 24, 1927 when the consulate was looted and consul shot twice. I believe the Destroyer Division was 24,Momo, Kashi, Hinoki and Yanagi. One of these was not present--which one? This was a major event and there are numerous American and British accounts. Can anyone confirm, Uchida? the names of the destroyers present? Astounded if there is not a Japanese account. The Japanese consulate, a hospital and other property were looted and a naval officer attempted suicide in "shame."

Hello jerryasher,

>Captain K. Uchida was the commanding officer of the three destroyers at Nanjing on March 24, 1927
Cdr Yoshida Keisuke was CO of 24th Destroyer Division.

>when the consulate was looted and consul shot twice
Rioting Chinese soldiers fired twice at Consul Morioka Shohei, but missed. Maj Nemoto Hiroshi (Consular officer of Army) was stabbed and severely injured.

>I believe the Destroyer Division was 24,Momo, Kashi, Hinoki and Yanagi. One of these was not present--which one?
According to 南京漢口事件実相 Nanjing Hankou Incident, Momo, Hinoki and Hamakaze were stationed in Nanjing. (Hamakaze was questionable.)

>The Japanese consulate, a hospital and other property were looted
The below were Rioting Chinese soldiers at the consulate.

He was LT Araki Kameo. He was dispatched with 10 sailors from 24th Destroyer Division on 22 March 1927. But, he was disarmed by Chinese troops surrounding Nanjing and was detained overnight. He was ashamed of this and attempted suicide, but survived.

Many thanks ijnfleetadmiral and fontessa; data to make me rethink, with pleasure. Fontessa: I didn't enquire as to ships at Hankou (April,1927) which was another incident---can you tell me what pages in your citation? or if I am lazy and you are not--what ships, and when? Again many thanks.
