Hi all,
I am looking for the career details of IJN Commander Kawano (ex Inoue) Michinori 河野(井上) 通徳 Class of 32 and Lt.Com. Kawano Shizuo 河野 静雄 Cl.39.
They have both been listed as Kono in some sources but Michinori's surname seems definitely to be Kawano.
What about Shizuo, is he Kono or Kawano ?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Steve.

河野 of 河野静雄 has two ways of reading.
カワノ KAWANO
コウノ KONO
In the table of contents of 海軍義済会員名簿 Naval Gisei-kai lists, 河野静雄 is included in the category beginning with "コ Ko". So his family name was KONO, not KAWANO.
A reprint of 海軍義済会員名簿 has been issued, but it is too expensive for me to buy. So I asked an acquaintance who have it to check.

Hello Steve,

I found that 河野静雄 was ordered “侍命 Jimei Waiting-order” on 10 January 1924 (1924.1.12.Frm6),
So,
LT KONO Shizuo 河野静雄 (39)
26th Submarine (Later RO-52) CO (ACTING): 1 December 1922 - 10 January 1924

The below is the outline of 26th Submarine sinking.
The torpedo head fired into the gate, firing the torpedo with the gate not open due to a failure of the gate opening / closing device of the 3rd torpedo tube. During this torpedo withdrawal operation, a large-scale inundation from the torpedo tube occurred. The hatch between the torpedo launch room and the adjacent officer's office remained open, causing flooding and sinking. This was due to an inadequate work plan for torpedo removal. Only the officer in charge of the torpedo, who drafted the plan, and CO KONO, who approved the plan, were liable. During the torpedo removal, KONO visited the tender Chiyoda to witness the appointment of 25th Submarine CO, and it was also a problem that she was not in the submarine.

KONO may have committed suicide and the Navy may have declared it sick. (This is my guess.)
