Hello everyone,
Is there any evidence that Japan, during the Russo-Japanese War, recruited local Manchurians as spies against Russia? I know they did use local bandits (the khunkhuzy) in the Manchurian countryside to raid Russian columns, so I am curious if any locals were also hired by Japan for intelligence-gathering, either in Russian bases (Port Arthur for example) or in rural areas.
Thanks.

Russian sources mention a lot of cases, where Chinese worked for Japanese intelligence. Including Port-Arthur.Viktor.S wrote: ↑29 Apr 2020, 12:48Hello everyone,

Do they mention any details on what sort of information those spies were gathering, or how they were doing it? Also, if they are mentioned in Russian sources, then I assume that at least some of them were caught by Russians?Eugen Pinak wrote: ↑30 Apr 2020, 10:42Russian sources mention a lot of cases, where Chinese worked for Japanese intelligence. Iv'e never studied this topic in detail. Apparently, they gathered all military related data they could find: troops, fortifications, etc.Viktor.S wrote: ↑30 Apr 2020, 10:47Do they mention any details on what sort of information those spies were gathering, or how they were doing it?
