The Red Cross Squadron is under the direct control of the Japanese Red Cross Headquarters, which was formed in 1963 by officers and employees of the Japanese Red Cross Society for the purpose of cooperating free of charge with humanitarian operations such as disaster relief performed by the Japanese Red Cross Society using aircraft.
