Naval Landing Party or Marines 1895

I have a citation, Olender--that on March 27, 1895 Japanese cruisers (unnamed) shelled and then landed a force of 200 Marines in northern Jiangsu Province. I am ignorant of Japanese Marine history and have questions. 1. Were they marines or a shore party from the ships? If shore party what ships? Rear Admiral Inouye Yoshika was in overall command. Many thanks in advance.

I cannot confirm that landing in Japanese sources. It will be a mistake.

Japanese marines existed only between 1871 and 1876. After that, they were all naval landing forces.

Many thanks Taki and Fontessa: Any chance quick translation? would have to check dates, but suspect Magong is in the Penghu Islands (Pescadors).
