D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11 (and other later Variants)
Looking for production Numbers on the D4Y1-C Type 2 ?
Drop Tank usage, presumably two 330 L drop tanks ? (the 95 refers to ?) Orange
Green- This means either a 250 kg Bomb or a 500 kg bomb correct ?
Could She lift Both a 500/250 kg Bomb Load and two 300L drop tanks ?

Hello Brady,
The breakdown of D4Y1-C and D4Y2-C is unclear.
Lubricant: 95L
D4Y2
Lubricant: 70L
Water - methanol: 85L
250 kg Bomb or a 500 kg bomb (Inside the bomb bay)
Or 30 kg Bomb x 2 (Under the main wing)

According Japanese WIKI, 40 aircraft were ordered.

Yes, correct.
250 kg Bomb or a 500 kg bomb (Inside the bomb bay)

No, she was D4Y1-C and suspended tree 300L drop tanks preparing for long-range reconnaissance.

Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
WoW, three 300l drop tanks, D4Y1-C and D4Y2-C were both purpose built reconnoissance versions?
Did they have a Camara as well ?
Thanks btw for the help

Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
D4Y1 Suisei Model 11, when did these dive bomber versions actually enter service ?
Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
Excellent
Recently I was rereading some material on Santa Cruz, and while I can’t put my finger on the exact page at the moment I am fairly certain that some D4Y1-C’s were launched to look for the American CV’s, apart from the two or three that were supposedly present during Midway I am not sure that I have any other references for their use in 1942, do you by chance know of any other examples in 42/43 of them being used from a CV?

Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
Hello Brady,
D4Y1 Trial 2 - 4 (Not C4Y1-C) were converted to reconnaissance plane.
In Midway, Trial 2 and 3 were carried by Soryu and lost with Soryu's sinking.
Trial 5 was lost by accident.
In Santa Cruz, 2 C4Y1-Cs were carried by Shokaku and survived.
I don't think C4Y1-C or C4Y2-C have ever boarded aircraft carriers since then.

Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
Again TY
The correct nomenclature for the D4Y1 “trial” variants was as you wrote it ?
And they differed from the production D4Y1-C how ?

Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
Hello Brady,
I should have use “prototype” instead “trial”. It was my mistake. Three prototype was converted to reconnaissance plane.
Prototype was almost same as D4Y1, but converted prototype was not exactly the same as the D4Y1-C, because the conversion were temporal.

I am just trying to figure out how to properly express it:
D4Y1 prototype
Unless there was an official term for it ?
O- and just to be clear the prototype could carry the three 300L drop tanks as well ?
Presumably the D4Y1 could carry either one, two, or three 300L drop tanks ?
With Alternative bomb loads ?
Two 300 L drop tanks and one 250 kg bomb (or 500KG?) ?
One 300l Drop tanks and two 60 kg Bombs ?
Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
Sry, for this but...
What does the 97 x 6 refer to hear (The Orange)
And what does the Red mean, and it's absence under the D4Y1 ?

Re: D4Y1-C Type 2 reconnaissance aircraft Model 11
Hello Brady,
In Japanese it was 試作機. It is translated to English as prototype.
My English is poor, so I may have misunderstood your question.
For military aircraft adoption, 試作機 prototypes need to be built and evaluated to show that the design and manufacturing process meets military requirements (both in past and present). In the case of D1Y1, five of these were built, three of which were converted into reconnaissance aircraft.

Probably yes. Because reconnaissance aircraft converted from prototype could do it.
Probably yes. In principle, the D1Y1 adopted had the same functions as the prototype.
Yes, but it is unclear 500kg bomb was OK. In the case of two 250kg bombs on the wing, it seems that the inside of the bomb bay was limited to a 250kg bomb.
Yes. But such a situation would be meaningless in practice.
It say about magazines with 97 bullets for Type 92 swivel machine gun.
Yes.

Hello Brady,

The below is probably D4Y1 Prototype No.2. The vertical tail aircraft number for D4Y1 Prototype No.3 was probably BII-202.
