Qing National War 1901

Post by jerryasher » 17 Jul 2021 23:30

Is anyone able to retrieve and canvas the Imperial Army history above? I have an interest in the transport of the Special Expeditionary Force authorized on June 15th to Tianjin. After July 21st the force was reorganized around the 5th Division and other forces were also dispatched. Would like details as to deployment and return. Also looking for supporting naval activity. Axis History Forum posts of 10 June 2014 by Mike Blake and Taki, and of Hisashi on September 15th, 2014, have been helpful. Many thanks in advance.

I think that you ask about Boxer Rebellion. The movements of IJA forces are as follows.

1st dispatch of Special Expeditionary Force
Departed from Ujina on June 19th, 1900 by Ikai Maru and arrived at Taku near Tianjin on June 23th.

2nd dispatch of Special Expeditionary Force (2 ships)
Departed from Moji by Dairen Maru on June 22th and arrived at Taku from June 25th.
Departed from Ujina by Tosa Maru on June 22th and arrived at Taku from June 25th

Dispatch of 5th Division
Departed from Ujina between June 9th and August 11th and landed at Taku between June 14th and August 16th. Ships are unknown.

Return of 5th Division
It returned between June 26th and August 2nd, 1901. The details are shown below.

The naval activities are stated in "明治三十三年清国事変海軍戦史抄". But, it has 5 volumes more than 1,500 pages. I cannot check such a huge history.

Many thanks Taki. I surfed the two citations. The top one has two very good maps and I think at page 103 a complete TO & E. The second has many sketch maps but perhaps of interest to others, many documents in English and French that seem to be minutes of the naval commanders conferences. Many thanks again.
