Japanese landings at Mirs Bay during Hong Kong Campaign

Post by Fatboy Coxy » 27 Jul 2023 10:43

Hi all, on the night of /5th December 1941, just prior to Japan opening hostilities with Britain and the USA, Japanese troops were landed at Mirs Bay. Does anyone know what formation they were from please.

Such a landing was not carried out. The Japanese moved inland to Hong Kong.

Hi Akira, I agree it wasn't units of the 38th Infantry Division, the three regiments 228,229 ad 230. But could it have been the 66th Infantry Regiment, which had to deploy to Danshui, and cover their rear?

It is Araki Detachment from 66th Infantry Regiment. It deployed its main body at Danshui and sent some troops to north mountains. It did not carry out landing.

So the British report of Japanese landing in Mirs Bay on the night of the 4/5th may have been a misreported error?
