Maizuru SNLF?

Post by ijnfleetadmiral » 24 Aug 2023 04:14

On Wikipedia, it states that the IJA's Okabe Detachment around Mubo, New Guinea was reinforced by marines from the "Maizuru Special Naval Landing Party". Which Maizuru Naval District SNLF contributed these troops? There were only two possible candidates:

1st Maizuru Naval District Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF) - CDR NAKAGAWA Yutaro (51)
4th Maizuru Naval District Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF) - CDR SASAGAWA Tohira (52)

TIA for any info on this.

There was no Maizuru Special Naval Landing Party. A party from Sasebo 5th SNLF was stationed at Mubo. Note that it did not reinforce Okabe Detachment. Okabe Detachment attacked Wau by themselves.

JACAR ref.C08030252600 frame 23 confirms what Taki said, it was the Komai Company of the Sasebo 5th SNLF in Mubo. However the nearby 82nd Guard Unit stationed in Lae did have many former troops from the Maizuru 2nd SNLF.
