Akagi Survivors?

Post by ijnfleetadmiral » 11 Sep 2023 02:45

Anyone know if there are any survivors of AKAGI still with us? The wreck is currently being surveyed by ROV, so I was just wondering if there are any survivors still with us to enjoy seeing their ship again. TIA for any info.

He is 須藤文彦 Sudo Fumihiko. The photo below was taken in August 2022, and he was 101 years old at the time. Unfortunately, I don't know if he's still alive. He was a maintenance crew of Akagi Air Group.
According to Japanese Wiki, Akagi's hangar at the time of the deadly dive bombing attack was;
Zero x 3: The rest were on the flight deck or air
Kate x 18: In the chaos, torpedoes were hanging, and bombs for land bombing were scattered around them.
Val x 18: Returned from the 1st wave attack and downed to the hangar.

The fact that he was a member of the air group maintenance crew and survived is a miracle in itself. I hope he's still with us and that he got to see the livestream.
