According to the 253rd Naval Air Group Action Report;
One Zero was shot. (Pilot suffered minor injuries.) I can't read his Kanji.
Claimed to have shot down 7 F4Us (2 uncertain).

Unfortunately, the 204th Naval Air Group Action Report lacks the record from January 2nd to January 13th.

I have mistook the time. I checked the 253rd Naval Air Group Action Report on January 3rd. But it was Tokyo Time and January 2nd in your time. So I rechecked it on January 4th, and January 3rd in your time.
There were three eligible people.
Baba Ryosuke: Crashed by himself. (= Shot down) KIA
Kuwabara Hiroshi: Missing. (Treated as KIA.)
Okimura Etsushi: Landing accident.

So of 4 IJN plane losses...3 shot down...it appears Boyington did indeed shot down at least 1 zero plane [2?]...unknown if Ashman shot down any enemy aircraft

Confirmation....

Thank you are setting the record straight
