This story is utter "war tale" with exactly zero evidence of it, save Baggett's own words. There were 4 other crew members form this plane in the air during this incident - but for s-o-m-e reasons during 50 years after the end of the war Baggett was unable to get into contact with them to receive their statements about such an incredible story. Maybe Baggett didn't get their statements because there was no story? ;)

Hi

Christopher Shores in 'Air War for Burma' pages 76-77 covers this day and incident:

Conclusion from this, incident probably did not happen.
