IJA Skip Bombing

Post by Brady » 02 Jan 2024 21:48

I have seen reference to the IJA conducting Skip Bombing early in the war during the campaign in the SRA area, I believe it was in Shores, but I can't seam to locate the reference.

TME 1985-4 has a reference for IJA "Skip" Bombs but the Type # suggests these were Mid war bombs, I think Type 3 means 1943, and Type 4 1944?

My Assumption is that they may well of conducted some early war Skip bombing attacks and found that the Normal bombs were not strong enough to Handel this, at least not often enough to be wholly reliable, and needed thicker cases to "survive" the experience long enough to hit and detonate on there targets.

So, The "?" is Did the IJA do these attacks early war, and were these special Skip Bombs really introduced in 43/44?
