Questions on the Japanese Singora and Pattani Invasion Forces.

Post by Fatboy Coxy » 07 Jan 2024 14:23

Hi all, I have a few questions relating to the Japanese invasion convoys employed in the first wave of landings in Southern Thailand at Singora (now Songkhla) and Pattani, on the 8th December 1941.

The land forces they carried were units of the Japanese 5th Infantry division, plus attached supporting units. Both convoys left Samah, Hainan (now Sanya) on the 5th December sailing at 18 knots, as one with IJN escort. After rounding the bottom on French Indo-China, and sailing into the Gulf of Siam, they split at a designated rendezvous named X, proceeding on to their designated landing zones.

If anyone can add or correct any information to my list, I would most apricate it

Hi JeffD, thanks, you have all the commanders names, wow! The numbers you provided in brackets, is that their ages? I'm surprised at the ages of the destroyer captains, all in their 50's!

No that is their Naval Academy Class. Naval Academy Class 50 graduated on June 1, 1922, for example. Most of these officers would have been late 30's or early 40's in 1941-42.
