The gun was a Type 89 40 caliber 12.7cm Twin AA gun.
The place was maybe 大津島海軍砲台 Otsusima Naval Battery in Hiroshima prefecture. Your photo shows A and B positions in the below picture. However, the person who posted the picture below also says, "It could be 館山砲台 Tateyama Naval Battery (in Chiba Prefecture)."

I don't think so. Naval AA guns didn't have AP shells. As for Guadalcanal, 8cm 平射砲 (Low-trajectory gun which had armor-piercing shells) were scheduled to be added at a later date.

Thanks for the PM. Unfortunately, I don't know how to attach the image file to PM. The 2 symbols you pointed out were RADARs. I attacked the photo taken by the US. AA guns were 8cm (maybe Single) AA Guns. They and 13mm MGs seem to make pairs.

The photo is Army Type 99 88mm AA Gun. It was never on Guadalcanal. 8cm AA gun on Guadalcanal is Navy Type 3 8cm AA gun.

Type 99 is AA gun, not dual purpose gun. It was deployed at air defense forces.

Hi.

Wikipedia Japan only mentions a HE-shell and an armor-piercing shell developed from 1944 for the Type 99 8 cm AA-Guns.
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B9%9D ... 4%E7%A0%B2

Never heard of an incendary shell for the japanese gun as mentioned in the english Wikipedia (the german guns had one).

Data for the HE-shell are added to the US TM 9-1985-5 but I don´t know if they are correct:
https://archive.org/details/TM9-1985-5/ ... 1/mode/2up

Are there any data available for the armor-piercing shell?

The naval 12,7 cm ammunition is also mentioned in the TM
https://archive.org/details/TM9-1985-5/ ... 3/mode/2up

Yours

tom! ;)

The ammunition for Type 99 8cm AA Gun is as follows.

Type 100 AA long-pointed shell
Type 3 AA object shell (smoke shell)
Type 1 AP shell
Type 4 AP shell

There is no incendiary shell.
