What were Germany's political stances with Japan? Why did Japan fight alongside Germany?

They were both a dictatorship and they had anti communist attitudes as well.

I don't think they fought alongside - they fought paralel. Germany hoped that Japan would help them defeat Russia - which they did not. Japan hoped that Germany would defeat England, so they could grab SE Asia - which they did not. After that was settled - one disappointment in Tokyo was matched by one in Berlin every time - until final defeat for them both. They never had a common strategy or aims.

Did the Japanese militarists ever root for Hitler to be elected chancellor of Germany, since Hitler, like the Japanese militarists, though that territorial conquest could help ameliorate the global effects of the Great Depression?
