A Visualization of The Factories, Research and Design Establishments of the Soviet Defence Industry based on Keith Dexter's and Ivan Rodionov's "factories, research and design establishments of the Soviet defence industry" (Warwick). The complex rose form 500 facilities (1928), to 1,000 facilities and institutes (1936) to 2,000 (1941). The postwar data illustrates the integration of the East German industry. A solid amount of the assets were dismantled in the salvaging operations and ported to the USSR.
Note, the geodata may not always be accurate.

The set spans from 1917/18 to 91, so applying a filter (e.g 1922-1940) to adjust it for the interwar and postwar period and to avoid possible duplicates is advised.

Of particular interest is the comparison of the information provided for the Wehrwirtschafts- und Rüstungsamt (Sept. 1940 status)

and the backup facilities with respect to the share of the Eastern USSR in defence industry enterprises.
