Krupp declined greatly in relative size from earlier decades when it was the biggest company in Europe.

Are you sure this is a ranking by market cap? I really doubt Reichswerke Hermann Goeing was a public traded company.

I picked the top 10 firms off the list, adding their respective industry sector and their modern successors. Not a single one actually produced arms and munitions, very interesting.

I.G. Farben (chemical) -> BASF, Bayer, Agfa
Vereinigte Stahlwerke (steel) -> dismantled after the war
Reichswerke Hermann Göring (steel) -> dismantled after the war
Bergwerksgesellschaft Hibernia (mining) -> E.ON
Vereinigten Eektrizitätswerke Bergwerke (power) -> VEW
Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk (power) -> RWE
Berliner Kraft und Licht (power) -> Vattenfall
Vereinigte Industrie-unternehmungen (power & aluminum) -> E.ON
Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks (mining) -> E.ON
Mannesmannröhren-Werke (steel) -> Vallourec

In the case of I.G. Farben that ignores the fact that one or more of its predecessor companies (it was formed in the 1920s from an amalgamation of German companies involved in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries) was involved in chemical weapons development and manufacture in WW1. That continued in WW2 when for example it developed and produced the nerve agent Sarin and produced Zyklon B used in the gas chambers. No doubt many of the other chemicals they produced ended up in other war materials.

By comparison, Japanese economy of WW2 was in the hands of a handful zaibatsu (財閥). Among those conglomerates three of the so-called big four zaibatsu survived the war and are still playing significant roles in Japanese industry & commerce today: Sumitomo (住友), Mitsui (三井), Mitsubishi (三菱). Only Yasuda (安田) was dissolved after the war.
