Good morning Chinaski 1917,

With death sentences for certain import-export transactions, inter alia, I wouldn't label the Third Reich's economic policy as something akin to Adam Smith's "invisable hand" governance.

Your word selection is accurate.

Warm regards,

Bob

No.

While Autarky was a stated goal and at times it was policy, at other times it was over ridden by other policies, in the main by the building up the arms forces required importing stuff to make stuff for the armed forces. In an overall generalisation you could say Autarky was as a policy followed for the civilian economy.

They tried to pursue a strict autarky economic policy, but the results were not brilliant .
Exemple : oil
In 1933,Germany "got" 3.16 million tons,of which 7.5 % crude domestic,5.3 % synthetic,and 87.2 % from imports
In 1934:from a total of 3.7 million: crude: 8.5 %,synthetic : 4.1 % and imports: 87.4 %
In 1935:total : 4.6 million: crude: 9.3 % synthetic: 5.2 %,imports: 85.5 %
In 1936:total: 5.17 million: crude : 8.5%,synthetic: 8.7%, imports: 83.8 %
In 1937:total: 5.64 million: crude : 8.4 %,synthetic: 11.8 %, imports: 79.8 %
In 1938: total: 6.75 million : crude: 7.8 %,synthetic : 18.2 %, imports: 74 %
