The Coca Cola company and the birth of a new soft drink
Well I am not so sure about the stockmarket but I do have an interesting tale about the origns of a famous softdrink produced by the Coca Cola company.
The German Subsidary of the Coca Cola company hit a problem in 1942, when its mother country the USA was suddenly at war with Germany. It suddenly could not get the essential Cola syrup to make Coke!
The resourcefull germans hit on a solution, produce a new drink. The new drink so created was FANTA!
Funny to discover the Third Reich origns of such a famous soft drink!!!

But was the Cola syrup still used in 1942? Hadn't it yet been replaced by synthetic coffein? The Desert Fox wrote:Well I am not so sure about the stockmarket but I do have an interesting tale about the origns of a famous softdrink produced by the Coca Cola company.

Cola Syrup
I think they where still able to get some supplies of the Cola syrup or at least had some stockpiled until any chance of new supplies had been closed by war with the USA.
I shall have to consult with a mate of mine who read the story in a book on the History of the Coca Cola company.

I'm not sure about the tale of the Luftwaffe pilots who tied captured bottles of coke in wet towels to the wings of aircraft just to cool them for drinking

Coca-Cola first crossed the Atlantic on board the Graf Zeppelin, the Geman dirigible.
From: http://www.people.virginia.edu/~tsawyer ... coke2.html7X and Merchandise #5 aside, these were the true secret ingredients for Coca-Cola's German success...
As German troops overran Europe, Keith and Oppenhof followed, assisting and taking over the Coca-Cola businesses in Italy, France, Holland, Luxembourg, Belgium and Norway." Even that the war had cut off the supply of 7X and Merchandise #5 proved unimportant. Keith and his men countered by inventing Fanta to see them through the war, and thus created a success that still reverberates throughout the corners of the world where local bottling companies fill Fanta bottles.

I remember watching a show about how the Germans had to come up with a replacement for Coke, and Fanta was what they got. The story is that upon defeating Germany, the rights to produce Fanta where taken back to the USA.

I think you are meaning cocaine, they stopped using it 1929. Search the internet and you will all the info you need.Ovidius wrote: But was the Cola syrup still used in 1942? Hadn't it yet been replaced by synthetic coffein?

http://www.cokebottles.de/cger.htmnecessity is the mother of invention
With ability, wealth of ideas and first of all with enthusiasm Max Keith, leader of the Coca-Cola GmbH since 1937, drives on the good trend. 1939 already 50 bottling plants are in operation and the standard truck replaces bicycle and handcart. War breaks out and with it the worry about raw materials for the Coca-Cola production. In the town Essen the company developes a new soft drink which can be produced also under conditions of war.
In 1939 Fanta conquers the market and helps the company to survive time of war and post-war, after 1942 the production of Coca-Cola has been stopped. In Germany and worldwide today Fanta is still the number one orange limonade.
On October 3rd 1949 Coca-Cola is back! The Company is prepared for the new requirements and the comming boom. It has been new arranged and bigger units are created. Soon bottling plants exist with in Germany never seen and unknown dimensions.
Very useful info

I'm not sure this information is correct. I read in a swedish newspaper called "expressen" about 6 months ago about this story. However in the article it was presented that Fanta was invented during the soviet blockade of west Berlin in the late 40's and that Fanta is short for "Fantastisch" which translates to Fantastic. But I also know from experience that Fanta is a centralafrican girlsname. Maybe it's all just talk? Is there any truth to this story at all?
I think most big companies and factories were private-owned.
One of the reasons Hitler had for killing Röhm was that he wanted to sosialize German society.
Not to glorify Hitler, but he was a kinda liberal nationalsosialist..he didn't agree when people like Himmler and the SS wanted to transform the hole society.

The 'Friedrich Krupp AG' is a corporation since 1903 (that was demanded by the founders last will).redbaron1908 wrote:Hello all,
I wonder though if most major German firms were not privatley owned? Such as Krupp which was not a corporation, but rather was owned by a sloe propeitor. Were most German firms like that, or either state owned?
'AG' = 'Aktiengesellschaft' is the German equivalent of 'inc.'
