Wow nice photo!
Could it be the image is mirrored?

Hi Tim

Could be but I don't think so because that does not fit with Stp. Toni .

Jos,your photo shows it firing towards the beach as you can see the lighthouse in the background...
if the 515 was firing toward Toni, you should see the sea in the background

Are you sure it's a photo? Could be the quality, but some details look painted, particularly the lighthouse. Maybe some artistic freedom?

Hi Jos,

when in doubt, check ING ;)

What I find strange, is that on this 1949 aerial there is already no trace left of the 506, althought the other two bunkers of this small stronghold are still in tact...
If I recall well, these black maps with white pencil are post-war allied maps (??) so the 506 must have been built for shure ...

Hello Jean

Dear Friends,

The 515 is gone on IGN aerial photo : bunkers still existing are 631 and 506. The 515 was southward, along the canal. Please look at this picture from Dunkirk city archives : the 515 is clearly visible on the right of the picture. Please have also a look on the extract from october 1944 aerial photo from NCAP.

So, the color picture show the 515 along the canal with the "canal exutoire" lock on the left.

Regards from Paris,

Sébastien Haule

hi, thanks for your help Sebastien
if the bunker i marked as 515 is in fact the 506, then the firing direction of the 506 is very badly drawn on the black map as it shows to be firing along the jetee but in reality it fired towards the bay created between the jetee and the Malo beach

the small flanking wall seen in the picture by Jos, does fit the small flanking wall as seen on the bunker I marked as 515 on the IGN map

Dear Friends

Here a picture dated march 1953 from IGN : the shape of the bunker identified as 515 by myt1prod clearly doesnt fit with a 515. So it's the 506.

Indeed Sebastien,
but this 506 is clearly not firing in the direction of the jetee as drawn on the black map (that's why I thought it could have been the 515 - without checking if the layout fits the bunkermodel - as it fires in the direction as the 515 drawn on the map)
