Hello @ndrew
In the Atlantikwall several guns were build out of batteries or from boats to be used in the land defence .

Probably it is an object in the photo.Andrzej Ditrich wrote:Command bunker (what type???) and gun from Pillau.
The spiky concrete pipe appears to have been attached later

Re: Pillau 1944
Hi!
Ok, the title is "Pillau 1944", but I found some information about SIGINT (signal intelligence)
of the Kriegsmarine at Pillau. Maybe interesting for some of you...
The SIGINT-service of the Kriegsmarine was called "B-Dienst", which was a short-form of
"Beobachtungsdienst" (monitoring-service).
At first, SIGINT-personnel belonged to the "normal" radio-operators at Pillau, which were under
the Marine-Nachrichten-Offizier (MNO) at the Marinefunkstelle (naval-radio-station) at Pillau
and also worked partial as radio-operators. Then, for a few years, the SIGINT-personnel worked
together with the radio-operators in the same room, but as a subbranch.
I know, that the "B-Dienst" at Pillau exsisted in April 1936, but it must have been there definitely
earlier. First the Marinefunkstelle had no own building, but it was a on a floor of a building in the
barracks of V.(rom. 5)/Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung (?) at Pillau. Sorry, but I don't know where these
barracks were.
The MNO of Pillau in 1936 was Kapitänleutnant Fechner (died later as a U-boat-commander) until
1938. From 1938 it was Kapitänleutnant Schäfer.
The MNO was the military disciplinarian of the whole Funkstelle, also the SIGINT-personnel. The
boss of the SIGINT-branch was Korvettenkapitän Stockhausen. Although Stockhausen had a higher
rank, he was "just" responsible for their work, but not for disciplin.
Around 1937 a "own" building for Funkstelle Pillau was build, north of Pillau near Neuhäuser.
There was a operation building, a service building, a large garage and a dwelling house for the MNO.
During the war, a barrack for additional personnel was also build.
Also at Neuhäuser, the "B-Dienst"-personnel was together in the same building with the "normal"
radio-operators, but in different rooms. For direction-finding the soldiers had a H-Adcock-DF for
medium- and long-wave at open field next to the post and a U-Adcock for short-wave-frequencies.
The post was around 0,5 km from the mainroad to Königsberg. From left to right: operation building with the radio rooms, dwelling house for the MNO, service
building with accommodation, garage
I think, I found the old position. The radio-building and the service-building still seems to exsist. In 1940, the "Admiral-von-Trotha-Jugendherberge" (youth hostel at Pillau) was modificated and
equipped as a "own" "B-Stelle" (Beobachtungsstelle) for SIGINT. The "real" radio-operators
remained at Neuhäuser.
From the day, when the unit was back at Pillau, it was a independent unit and Korvettenkapitän
Stockhausen was now also their disciplinary boss.
Youth hostel at Pillau before the modification. The building is now a administrative office building. (?) http://uploads.ru/CRgXF.jpg
The MPHS-building is in the upper right corner.
In 1941/42, all "B-Stelle" were renamed to Marine-Peil-Haupt-Stelle (MPHS).
When Reval (Tallinn) was in German hands, one of the two mobile MPHS went to Reval and build
up a new MPHS, which was equipped by the whole personnel of MPHS Pillau and started its work
at 16. Mai 1942. There was no more B-Dienst at Pillau for some time.
Later during the war, MPHS Reval was given up and the personnel withdraw to Pillau. In February
1945 the crew of MPHS Pillau withdraw to MPHS Swinemünde.
Is somebody "around the corner" to take a picture and confirm my guess about the position of the
Funkstelle at Neuhäuser (Metschnikowo (russ. Мечниково))?
Best wishes
Rolf
