Peculiar looking 37mm SK C/30 gun shield

Post by Christian W. » 11 Jul 2019 09:28

Hello,

I recently came across this picture showing a 37mm SK C/30 with the most interesting looking gun shield.

Image

I have never before seen a gun shield like this on a 37mm SK C/30. As the picture's text says, gun shield of this type was used (at least) on light cruiser Nürnberg (not sure when these gun shields were added, but must have been during the war's later years). This gun shield is also visible in this picture - it is a bit blurry, but one can make out the characteristics of this gun shield type (picture can be opened as its own link for full resolution).

Let us zoom in a bit closer.

See the anti-aircraft position next to the 88mm SK C/32 gun (crew standing in front of it): I took the liberty of adding red arrow pointers. It is our peculiar looking gun shield.

Does anyone have more information this gun shield type?

Hello, it was also used on Van Speijk, post war, I assume. Here are a few clear photos of the double shield:

Does anyone know which museum this is? The picture text on Wikipedia is in Dutch, so I would assume that this is some Dutch museum.

Yes, that is the place.

If anyone has more information on the gun shield, it would be appreciated.
