40,6 cm Battery at Harstad.

I will be travelling through North Norway in a few weeks time, and i am thinking of visiting the 40,6 cm Battery at Harstadt.

Is it true that the battery can be visited ?
Is it worth a detour ?

Are there any other fully functional batteries in North Norway worth a visit ?

The fortress is still military area, and can only be visited with guides in the following period:

6.June-14.august: Every day at 11.00, 13.00 & 15.00
15.-21. august: Every day at 13.00 & 15.00
22.-28. august: Every day at 15.00

I would also recommend you a visit to the Red cross war museum in Narvik!

hello
the batterie is still equipped with all its 4 guns - but only ONE can be visited. This one is a museum inside military area - so you will not be able to walk around on your own to see all the 4 * 40,6cm guns ! the one to the right (east) is teh musuems one.

i can recommend a visit ! still one of the biggest ship-artillery placed on land !

greetings

The museum at Tromsø still has a couple of 10.5cm guns in place (MKB 1/512).

Trondenes is well worth a visit as is the museum at Narvik.

If you're planning to stop by Tromsø, i'd be happy to show you around...if i'm in town of course.

hei,
its a really interesting visit, you can even climb into the barrell.
as a former costal atillery soldier the "adolf canon" of 40,6 is an amasing site, i thought the guns of the fort where i was stationed, with its 120mm guns were impressive, but after this. wow

the guns are leftovers from the planed huge blue water navy, which were intended to take the war to the americans sometime in the 1950s when germany had finnished its naval buildup

Are there any good militariafairs or dealers in Norway ?

I know a lot of deactivated german big bore ammunition has come out of Norway over the last years, and i imagine it is cheaper there then overhere.

Nice document, thanks Jos and Natter for sharing

This picture is in the document from Harstad / Trondnes.

Great document, thanks for showing.

I did visit Harstad that year, and it was well worth a visit.
The guide went through the whole thing rather fast, especially the ammunition on display got very little attention.
But that gives me a good excuse to go up north again this summer. :D

One of my questions still stands: Are there any good militariafairs or dealers in Norway ?
