113 d or 115 d at Bel Royal

#1

Post by jopaerya » 20 Jul 2006, 20:08

Hello All

I found this drawing of the 113 d and 115 d , I know that the
top level of this bunker was build in W.n. Bel Royal at Jersey .
To me it looks that the 113 d was build there in B , or is there
other German info or building plans of this bunker ? Many
books and internet sites called the bunker a 115 d .
Was there a 113 d or 115 d build there at Bel Royal ????

Regards Jos

Hi Jos

Right the bunker at W.n Bel Royal here in Jersey is a modified West Wall
type 115d consisting only of the top floor the lower floor was never built!
Your plans you have posted Jos, the plan on the 2nd row left hand pic is
almost spot on to the plan in "Jersey's German Bunkers" book!
Apart from the escape shaft is situated on the top floor l/h entrance and in
the ammunition room there is no stairs leading down.

I only have one pic of this bunker taken before the turret was removed, but
i know the C.I.O.S did gain access to this bunker a number of years ago, to servey
the bunker so i will see if i can obtain some copies of the pics and post them
ok Jos.

The two links here, one is a picture of them re-opening the slipway between
the two bunkers at W.n Bel Royal, The other link is a picture of my R634 at Corbiere
having the turret removed :x

Cheers Kevin

As the internal layout for both is more or less the same except to adapt to the different wall thicknesses it would prehaps be wise to assume that the bunker at Bel Royal is a Type 113 d which lacked the lower floor. (113 d SK ?)
The escape shaft was moved up a floor and leads off of the left hand entrance oppersite the 424P01 entry door.
Strange that this Type was used as Jersey has 4 different standard Types used for mounting 20P7 turrets 8O (1x632(provisional),3x 632 SK( Jos!), 1x 634 and Bel Royal's. In each case the same Type Nr could have been used!

Some shots of the outside of the (once) linked 631 b and 113 d at Bel Royal.
The 113 d was built on the entrance of a Victorian slipway and after the war, to re-open, the slipway the corridor linking the 2 bunkers was cut through as it was more easy than to demolish the 113 d 8O

The 631 b was modivied by lacking a entrance defence room. the corridor leads strait off the bunker entrance with access steps coming off at a right angle to the entrance.

The 113 d had its 20P7 turret cut off in 1953.
The Germans demolished a nearby Jersey round tower to improve the field of fire.
The Germans asked the Island government if they would like to remove the tower and reconstruct it some where else as it was a piece of the islands history! 8O
The Government said NO, so the Nepolionic tower got blown up. A burger stall stands on the site of the tower today. :D
Today the bunker is buried and has hadall its armoured fittings removed for scrap :(

Found a document from end 1941 with a plan with R 113d at Alderney , so that could fit fit the R 113b at Bel Royal ??
The other bunkers were also found on other places as planned . Please also note the "Werk" ( NARA )
