Hi all,

An 370mm Mle 1915 howitzer in German use.

Any idea about the gun posted on 28 Feb 2018 ?

I have posted pictures of two rare French railway guns in the WW1 section. I'm looking for more information on both.

1) 14 cm Mle 1910 French naval gun - Railway gun prototype
https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic ... 1&t=234573

2) 240 mm Railway Howitzer Schneider (for Belgium)

Could this be a 274 mm modèle 1917 sur affût à glissement Schneider ??
The name on the gun does not look like Breslau or Fürth. ( Ebay )

Hi, I believe the 32cm with camo picture is one of a series related to loaned out/leased ALVF/ALGP guns to US.

Attached is just small reference data snippet for the 32cm Mle 1870-1881.
In the notes there are two other barrels related/used with this carriage configuration (where
elevation gearing is in front of trunnion).

Hi - I came across by accident an interesting report which basically was the initial assessment conducted on the captured French railway guns.
It is dated June/July 1940. With that very early date, the report hi-lights which guns, qty and types were inspected and where they were located.
I think this potentially helps to identify locations for many "trophy" pictures of French guns as well to confirm and/or correct what type they were.

Greg

Nobody for my last image ?

Well, here another image from Ebay. Can anyone identify the model of this gun ?
In the book "Les Canons de la Victoire 1914-1918" is not this number of carriage : 3077

Hi - Because it utilizes 6 axle trucks, I would think it to be 305mm Mle 1893-96 ?

Second thought though it could the 340 Mle 1893 because it has the angled rear support brackets (for the roof).
This however doesn't solve the 3077 number issue though.

Hi EPOCH3

Guy Francois in "Les Canons de la Victoire 1914-1918" book give the following carriage numbers for the 305mm Mle 1893-96 guns: 3051 to 3058.

Agreed - might be a dumb idea on my part but could the numbering schemes have changed later on? I always thought the carriage numbers in "Les Canons de la Victoire 1914-1918" were relative to WWI so perhaps something was reidentified later. Wish there was a bit less angle on the picture and that we could see the breech area better. Interesting though.
