Knokke-Zoute near the Lekkerbek

German personnel bunker hidden under the sand, unearthed begin of the 1980's
The bunker was behind the dique and protected with a Ringstand towards the landside (also unearthed).
The original fences of the two entrances were still there, date of construction 1940
The original main entrance steel door to the single room was also still in place.
Box with original electric fuses and telephone cable still in place. When opened by the demolishing firm the bunker contained a bunker stove, fragments of iron beds, gas masks, etc.

Cnock

Hi Cnock,

This is the 502 of Stp Het Zoute. A VF1a bunker of the same position has been demolished 2 years ago (see above in the same thread) but where did you get these pictures, there are copyright of Eddy Lambrecht?

Greetings

hi there everyone,
it seems so sad to me that all these bunkers are getting destroyed when in England there's a pill box near to my home has got a preservation order on it,meaning it can not be touched in any way.there's nothing outstanding about it,just a concrete box. i wonder if any one in charge of knocking these places down,ie in France has ever wondered how many people go there just to see the bunkers that they are destroying.
the channel islands have started opening up some of the coastal battery emplacements,as they have realized what tourists want to see.

your thoughts on this anyone,
cozy powell

The channel islands don't open the sites; the Channel Islands Occupation Society do, and they're private societies with only tenuous links to the States of Guernsey and Jersey. And they've been doing it for many years with little enthusiastic support from the afore-mentioned States, and things are now getting to the point on Jersey, at least, that some of the sites aren't being opened because of a lack of volunteers to do so.
The problem on Jersey seems to be that there are still those in Jersey society with some States support that dislike the bunkers so intensely that they will actively seek the demise of the sites; the number that have quietly been dismantled/demolished is legion, and only some very fast legal manoeuvres by the CIOS(Jersey) saved the iconic RN Richtfeuer embrasure from total annihilation.

Hello Jos and Eddy,

On the first picture of Eddy, you can see the L410 and the 2 L402s left and right in the background.
On the second picture of Eddy, the church spire visible in the far background is definitely not the church of Bredene but the one of Sas-Slijkens with means the picture has been taken facing south. The bunker with the red arrow is one of the 3 L407's of the position. This L407 (V3 in my inventory) is the only bunker from all the constructions of this position that is not on the inventory (of the Ministry of Public Works) of the works that had to be demolished in 1970. Or this bunker has been demolished later, or is now under the new road passing there today.

For Jos,
It's the L404 (BI) not a L403 (BII). The B II had to stand normally in the middle of the 6 bettungs for 8.8cm but the postwar inventory mentions only a bunker in ruins there and the air pictures don't give me a view clear enough to be sure at 100% that the BII (L403) has been really been built and was standing there. The postwar pictures shows clearly that the large bunker next to the L405 is a L404 and that that one that Partridge took in picture.

death of a bunker of Stp Oberon
the destruction of the 25 bunkers in a period of 1 year costed then 10 million Belgian francs.
