In Gdynia (Poland) one cold-war observation bunker of coastal battery has been thrown down from cliff.
Here are some links to the final stage of operation. Unfortunately I don't posses my private pictures.

I know, that feste Graf Haesler (Verdun - the French name) is not a Germany fortification. But recently I've received some pictures from YouTube where can be seen disassembly of 15 HPT turrets. Does anyone of our forum has got any information about that activity?

DaSK,
I believe these were going to Kronprinz/Driant or Kaiserin/Jeanne D'Arc.
The turret on these feste are in a worse shape than the ones on Haeseler.
The bad turrets of Kronprinz/Kaiserin wil be placed in Haeseler, so it could
also be that the turrets are placed back.

It has been a while since we visited Metz so it could be that the turrets are
for a other Feste than Kronprinz/Kaiserin.
Greetings from Holland, Jack.

Jack, thanks a lot for information about turrets.
So I have another question. Feste Kronprinc and Kaiserin will be open for public?

I think we visited them both but officially they are still military terrain.
But put your car in the area and just do not get caught!
There are stories of people getting a pretty big fine, the problem is that
the festes are being robbed by metal thieves on regular bases.
To prevent that every person caught gets a fine of 1500 something (i do
not know if these are the old French francs or Euro's), but these are stories
we heard during a guided tour.
Greetings Jack.

You know, some people might see these bunkers as ugly, spoiling the environment. What I see there is history being destroyed, a terrible thing. How long will these relics be able to last? Will people in the future be digging meters down excavating things like they do with medieval ruins and artefacts that we do today?

People may look back today and think its a shame that buildings from the past were not preserved, yet here we are destroying them today.

Hi Jack, do you know more about the situation with turrets in Metz? I have visited Jeanne D'Arc (Kaiserin) at February 2011 and I was unpleasantly surprised - the 15 cm turrets were partailly torn out and there was a small crane, prepared to destroy more of them. Seemed to me like scrapping.

By the way, my friends were caught by French Gandarmerie at Bois-le-Dame (near Jeanne D'Arc) last month. They told them to be careful :-)
