Panzermauer Nijmegen Holland
Reconstructing the north end of the Nijmegen bridge they found the old german 'roadblock', dug in the road. This is what happened with one of the blocks.... An other part, with markings and damage from the fight for the bridge still visible, is saved and will be placed in the vicinity of the bridge after the reconstruction is finished.

Re: The "Destroyed bunkers" thread
Hi Elvamie,
I have seen two parts that were removed from the "burialsite" at the bridge.
These two parts have indeed markings (red and white) so you do not drive on to it in the dark.
Sadly i have not seen the third part, on the Fortificationforum you can see some pictures.
The roadblock consited of three parts.
Historically it is one of the best known roadblocks, It seems to have halted the drive to Arnhem
by the Guards Armored division.

Re: The "Destroyed bunkers" thread
Bad news from France. Yesterday I visited W.N Le Pont d'Oye the LS bunker.
When I arrived I noticed they have just started the demolish of the bunker (only a part so I think he started yesterday or monday).
When I started to make pictures of the bunker, the person who was in the crane demolishing the bunker started to be very aggresive (the standard story "property privee etc. etc) and I think he was telling me I had to remove the pictures (I do not understand much France words) but when he started to pull my camera out of my hands I understand what he wanted. I think he finally understood on the way I was looking he better stop touching my camera and me.
But he was very angry and pushed us away from the location. After I was back in my car he started filming my license plate me and my car. I'm not sure but the way he reacted to us it looks like he's demolishing the bunker without permission (what else could be the reason to be so aggresive to someone on the open street (the location is no private property as far as I could see.
Here some pictures, maybe someone is interested to find out if the guy is doing something not legal.

Re: The "Destroyed bunkers" thread
Hello Remco,
strange behaviour, indeed.
I don't think it is an illegal act, it's so clearly visible to be seen from the street to be hidden. Don't you have seen an official Sign with names, dates, society name for the demolition ? normaly when works happen (like building a house, or destroying something) it should be clearly published for everyone passing from the street. I didn't find anything about official works there on the web, but this is not updated.
Does the ground belong to the city of Oye-Plage or to a private personn ? If it's owned by the city, then this is certainly legal.
Sometimes as well, far deep in our countrysides, some local inhabitants may have saddly a very rough behaviour..

Re: The "Destroyed bunkers" thread
No official signs or whatsoever. Also no company names on the machine and it looks like it is was a "private project". Not sure if it's private ground. At the begin of the road there was a sign no acces with a text below (I can't remember the text) but I think it means like "only accesible by car for people who live here.
Not sure by who the bunker/ground is owned, but it looks private property as I noticed some animals (chicken and pigeons) inside the bunker

Re: The "Destroyed bunkers" thread
Hmm ok, then he should have been angry because you were in private propriety certainly. The threat to take numbers plate was only to call the police, but 1) he maybe wont do it, 2) Police has certainly other things to do than chasing after foreign visitors.
I don't think it's illegal, take a look at (sorry in french) :
http://www.cotemaison.fr/devis-travaux- ... 14490.html
There are many conditions, but it is written "même en secteur préservé, quand le bâtiment menace ruine ou qu'il est insalubre, il n'est pas besoin de permis de démolir." : even in classified sectors, when the building is coming to be ruined or is unsafe/unable to be habited, then there is no need of a destruction licence.

A real shame the bunker in Oye!
I have some rather unhappy experiences to with the French, they shot on my with a hunting shotgun, that was on mt st frieux.
And then two years ago a frensh farmer wanted to kill us by driving his pick up strait towards us!
I can't understand what is wrong with this people???

You were trespassing, like 100.000 others before you?

Yes, I think like Arthur. In France, like everywhere, private propriety is a right that people have to respect. When you find someone in your ground, for certainly the one hundred time, without any askings before, then it is possible or understable to feel angry.

Frieux was back then only a forrest, and the last one was just a grass land, so you think thats meight not be a problem.
Maybe the biggest problem is the explosive growth of atlantikwall enthousiast, from a hand full 15 years ago to maybe over the 1000 now day's and they all go to that farm and ask, can i visit the bunker, i could imagine that a farmer on a certain moment says, ok i've got enough of this.....
