Hello

Top-Pick!!

42cm “Big Bertha” and German Siege Artillery of World War I
Authors: Marc Romanych Martin Rupp
Illustrator: Henry Morshead
About this book
In the early days of World War I, Germany unveiled a new weapon – the mobile 42cm (16.5 inch) M-Gerät howitzer. At the time, it was the largest artillery piece of its kind in the world and a closely guarded secret. When war broke out, two of the howitzers were rushed directly from the factory to Liege where they quickly destroyed two forts and compelled the fortress to surrender. After repeat performances at Namur, Maubeuge and Antwerp, German soldiers christened the howitzers ‘Grosse’ or ‘Dicke Berta’ (Fat or Big Bertha) after Bertha von Krupp, owner of the Krupp armament works that built the howitzers. The nickname was soon picked up by German press which triumphed the 42cm howitzers as Wunderwaffe (wonder weapons), and the legend of Big Bertha was born. This book details the design and development of German siege guns before and during World War I. Accompanying the text are many rare, never-before-published photographs of ‘Big Bertha’ and the other German siege guns. Colour illustrations depict the most important aspects of the German siege artillery.

Atlantikwall, Batteries and Bunkers

After several, mainly Dutch and German publications on the Atlantikwall Rudi Rolf compiled a brand new book in English: Atlantikwall, Batteries and Bunkers. The book combines the elaborate content of the German publication Atlantikwall, die Bauten der deutschen Küstenbefestigungen (1998) and the systematic approach in the trilingual Atlantic Wall Typology (2004).

Essential German documents, like the minutes of Atlantikwall meetings with Adolf Hitler, are printed in translation, while exhaustive lists of bunkers built and batteries constructed are depicted together with clear maps of coastal sectors. The historical description of the Atlantic Rampart is preceded by an introduction on German fortification with the Imperial fortresses, the Flanders Coast during WW I and German rearmament in the 1930s, culminating in the construction of the Oder-Warthe-Bogen and the Westwall (Siegfried Line), as well as the fortification of the German isles (Heligoland).

The Atlantikwall itself is described from a historical point of view, with emphasis on its development in the early war years, the extension of coastal artillery defence, and -ultimately - the release of the Atlantikwall construction programme in the West. Attention is also given to other German defence positions, like the Gothic Line in Italy and the Ostwall (Eastern Rampart) in the former Soviet Union. The book is concluded by a geographical survey of fortifications constructed and batteries installed.

Atlantikwall, Batteries and Bunkers is bound, hard-covered and counts 464 pages in full colour print. Illustrations are many: nearly one thousand plans of standard bunker designs and special constructions, over one hundred maps of fortresses and coastal sectors, as well as 360, mainly colour photographs, many of which date from the pre-graffiti era.

Its price is € 75, including shipment within the EU (non-EU + € 10).

Hello,

It is my great pleasure to inform the foreign members of the Forum of the publication of the English version of my book “Le Mur de l’Atlantique ”. Its name: “Atlantic Wall – Its Most Incredible Remains”. We are proud to precise that the translation has been made by Colin Partridge himself, the eminent specialist of military and naval history of the Channel Islands and one of the precursors of the bunker archeology. The 292 pages of the book are illustrated with more than 1,400 pictures and documents and take the reader in a journey from Norway to France for a discovery of the most impressive or interesting remains of the Atlantic Wall!

public price: 35 Euros (shipment to be added). Now available on the Editions du Grand Blockhaus’ website http://www.editionsgrandblockhaus.com and soon in good bookshops!

Best regards to all
Alain Durrieu

There is a new book about FHQ Wolfschanze!
It was written by Dr Bogusław Perzyk-there won't be better one on subject.

"WOLFSCHANZE - las, beton i miny" by Bogusław Perzyk
Publisher: Militaria Bogusława Perzyka
ISBN 978-83-907405-4-6
17,4x24x11mm, over 230 pages, soft cover, glossy paper, lots of b&w photos and drawings in typical Perzyk's style by this time digital instead of prevoius ones hande made. Languge: Polish + English,German captions under photos and plans.
Author focused on history of this FHQ and additional things like bomb plot.
Except FHQ there are interesting infomations about airfield, AA defence (Flak & radars), ground field fortyfications including Panzerabewher Stutpunkten fitted with Panther tanks(!!!)-all around this FHQ.

So far there is not much info about distribution but for sure "Pelta" and "Odkrywca" bookstores will have it soon.

Highly recommended!
