Richard has mentioned this in the past but he said that he was offered both the 4.7cm Pak K 36 (t) and the M19 at the same time (£2000 for the restored M19! 8O ) but as he didn't know of the M19's significance at that time he wasn't interested in it and I think it went to a German museum.

Thanks for posting that Malcolm. We have now had conditional approval from the Planning Department and are hoping to get started in the New Year, Batterie Scharnhorst is still ongoing but looking great.

We are expecting the worst in terms of the structural damage caused by the removal of the cupola, it's quite evident from the car park that there is a lot of damage. But I'm sure we will overcome this with a bit of thought and hard work. Would be nice to meet you guys when you come over, we'll have to let you know nearer the time as to when a visit would be most beneficial to you. We were considering a trip over to your neck of the woods shortly, again, probably in the new year now.

Regards,

Hello

The pictures on Panoramio is not mine - but try to contact "Pillbox" on the Panoramio site - via this link in the earlier posting.

I am sure that it is possible to make contact there - via mail or "guestbook"...

Hi Grant,

Anythings possible :) , the same went for when the 634 was excavated at Stp. Corbiere. The photo shows the turret room and where you see the 2 bolts in the wall at the back there should be 2 metres of reinforced concrete but there was only a foot thick ring left with the bolts in :o . The digger went down about 4 metres and no trace of the concrete wall that should have been there 8O . Still get problems with water getting in through the fractures resulting from the removal of the turret and also from the joints that were disturbed between the various concrete pourings from when the bunker was constructed :(

Give me a shout when you come over and I will open up the M19 for you if you wish :D

Regards,
Malcolm

PS. Are you guys planning to go the full hog and make an M19 mortar???

Hello All

This might be a silly question but here goes!

Are the 5cm Maschinengranatwerfer M19 rounds the same as the 5-cm leichte Granatwerfer 36?

Regards

Hi Grant,

Yes they are, although a different type of wooden crate (which holds 30 rounds in cardboard tubes) was used to transport them to the one used for the 5cm Gr.W.36.

There are photos of inside a M19 ammunition room where you can see the standard 10 round 5cm Gr.W.36 metal boxes stacked in the ammunition racks :)

Hi,

Looks like there were differences in the types of propelant cartridge used for the mortars fired by the M19 and the 5cm Gr.W.36 (I think??? :? )

The only other difference is the type of case used for transporting the mortars with the light infantry mortar using metal cases that would hold 10 mortars while the M19 mortars came in cardboard tubes held in a wooden crate that would contain a total of 30 mortars . There was also a 30 round wooden crate produced for the light infantry mortar which is identical in size as the one for the M19 except the lid was on the side (opening the M19 case you would see the end of the cardbard tubes while when opening the case for the infanty mortar you would be looking at the sides of the cardboard tubes)

The photo below shows the 2 types of crates which would hold 30 x mortars.

Malcolm

I was wondering if the covers over the M19 Schartes at Fjell are original ones or Norwegian post war?
Because the closing mechanism inside talks about "aufgesetzter Regenhaube".

Hi Arthur,
I always thought these were original but heard a lot of people that say the opposite.
But it could Also be the metal cover that was to be drawn from the scharte.

No because the metal cover is in open position if the Regenhaube is on. (According to the little plate)
