Jos,

very interesting. It seems indeed this M19 was automatic, most likely due to the placement
of an electromotor connected to the Swungscheibe! Interesting! No lists by any chance
for Hoek van Holland ?

Hello enyone interested in the M-19,
have a look at our website for the bunker, ammunition or the ammo-clips. On the site there are some pictures of R. 633 at Ostende (http://www.wgboa.com) and of the ammo-clips (very unique is the üb version of the ammo-clip) on http://www.awmm.org. Sorry to say that i don't have information about it being hand- or electricaly driven. But on the 'box' in Peters pictures it says 'motorantrieb' and 'handantieb', so one can conclude this was realy the case. I can confirm the 'labels' on the 'box' reads these words.

Hai,

Beside the motor I also think it's safe to conclude that the ammolift was also placed.

In the fine book about Seefront Ijmuiden Ruud Pols mentiones a document that states that in 1944 the ammolifts were "still" failing. However on Jos' list it says vollautomatisch... Ergo, the lifts were most likely placed during 1944....

Nice to finally have some data that confirms the placement of a fully automatic weapon..
Also, Interesting Übungsrahmen

Hi all,

Got hold of a nice piece of M19 kit. 8-)
A ammunition box for holding 30 x M19 mortars! 8O

It is of the same size as the wooden crate used to hold 30x 5cm Grw. 36 mortar bombs for the 5cm infantry mortar.

The mortars would be inside a cardboard tube and in the one for the infantry, lay down but in the M19 crate stood up on end.

The lid has a rubber seal nailed to it and it looks like the crate was lined in metal and the outside is painted black. The infantry crate was just wood with no seal :o

The lid is marked "Mun. 19"
There is lable on the side which, although damaged, reads "5cm Grw. 36" and "Munitions für Maschinengranatewerfer M19"

The rubber seal can be seen on the lid and also a cardboard tube to hold a 5cm mortar has been placed inside.

The crate with "Mun. 19" on. During the war the bunker crew hid potatoes in them as they would normaly be sealed (lead seal through the clasp) and one of the crew could break them and re-seal them back up!!

Hi all,

A M19 training clip which has 4 bombs welded and pinned to it.

The clip is weighted to be the same as a standard 6 bomb clip and it also has 4 fake bakerlite fuse heads and woodern propelant cartriges for inserting into the bomb tail (not shown)

Note "EX" stamped into the clip 8O

Hi,
P. Heijkoop wrote: I think the different ranges you mention for the weapon are dependent of the kind of mortars (ammo) they used.

Schussweite:
a) Small charge and barrelelevation 853- 240m
b) Small charge and barrelelevation 547- 5m
c) Large charge and barrelelevation 853- 600m
d) Large charge and barrelelevation 547- 80m

Sorry for sounding thick  but what does the '853-' mean in 853- 240m :?

Millimetres from the vertical?

Assuming need to bring fire to bear on top of position, use: vertical-547m small charge: pops up, comes down, clears top of position...

Assuming need for longest range, use: vertical-853mm biggest charge, longest range achieved?

What was the greatest possible elevation for the M19 in mils?

Gander & Chamberlain just give +48 to +85deg, presumably from horizontal...being +/positive.

But the figures begin to match, back assward??

To achieve a longer range, the tube must be depressed...?

Mind you, they also give minimum range as *50* M max 750M...

Hi Avb,

 What scale are we working to :?

Its not degress from the horizontal as 90deg. would be vertical and the top Nr is 360 :?

Are you talking Mils as in 6400mil is a complete circle??? :? :x

Hello John

I think that Peter made a typo in his first post , he corrected the
data as you can see on his post ( the last line ) after my post .
