Re: Railway guns of the Axis forces
Hello Forttravel
I think your gun is not a railway gun, but a German coast gun.
Here same type of gun with the name Scharnhorst .
Regards Jos

The picture of the gun "Scharnhorst" is one of the 28 cm SKL/45 in MAB Kiberg. The Bettungschiessgerüst was inherited from Batterie Grosser Kurfürst (28 cm SKL/50) after this battery was reestablished in modern C/37 Coast Turrets. The 28 cm guns came from the gun pool set aside for Operation Felix.jopaerya wrote:Hello Forttravel

The other two guns in the battery also had traditional names from the German WW I navy.
The picture posted by forttravel » 26 Nov 2017, 00:42 shows one of the two guns of Battery E689 which was operating in a Coast Defence role in Narvik, later Nypan and Öysleboe. At the end of the war it was a army railway battery posted at Rakkestad-Mysen. The picture is postwar and shows one of the guns stored not far from Mysen.

More pictures of the 38 cm SK L/45 Max in Germany in 1945:Manuferey wrote:Uwe,
This 38 cm "Max" gun was not captured in Italy but in Germany instead.
Only one 38 cm "Max" gun survived WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles. The gun was captured in 1918 in Belgium during the retreat of the German forces and remained in Belgium. Belgium exchanged it in the 1920's with France against AA guns in particular. The Germans captured it again in France in 1940 and sent it to Germany but never used it operationally. American troops captured it in Germany in 1945. (information from Guy François on a WW2 French forum).
Another picture of this gun in Germany in 1945:

Note that the site indicates the location as Zyder Zee (aka Zuider Zee) in the Netherlands. But the landscape does not look to me like it !

Re: Railway guns of the Axis forces
It is the WW1 version, given to Belgium after the war as war payments and re-captured in May 1940.

Re: Railway guns of the Axis forces
Could be a gun of the E 721, these two guns were extra marked with a large A and B.

A 28 cm Kürze Bruno from the E 721 with the sign "Rückert"and two owls.
Is that a unit sign or maybe the name of the commander of the unit ??
