Heavy gunbatteries in Greece
Heavy gunbatteries in Greece
Hello All
Who knows if the German troops used the double 30.5 cm turrets at Aegina (Greece) during the second world war , the guns were placed in 1932 by the Greeks and were from the battleship Limnos ( ex USS Idoha ) and are they still there ???
Also looking for information about the 20,3 cm batterie at Cap Papas near Patras .
Regards Jos

Re: Heavy gunbatteries in Greece
Hello Jos,
Great find ! J have been hunting for photos for many years !
It is a 8 in Mark 6 twin naval turret from Limnos .
The 8 in twin turret is very similar to 12 in twin naval
turret ( Cap Tourlos ) , both have 3 x local sight hoods .
On the 8 in the local sight hoods are more close than
12 in + at only 12 in had a flat roof .
Interesting these 8 in twin turrets were manned by Greek
crews , then Italian and at last German crews . Interesting note :
" 13/617 Kap Papas 4 x 20,30 cm (a) 19 000 "
regards
ludvig
