Daniel.

Do you have any idea how many 40P8-turrets were placed in the Westwall?
Generally, you don't see them on pictures or read about them in books.

Hello Arthur, hello Peter,

the antitankwall is still there, some parts blown up, the dragon theets are demolished, as the bunkers are. Ruins of all structures are still there. The wet antitankditch is also still there. The whole area is relatively overgrown.

According to a list from Inspektion der Befestigungen from 1944 a total of 16 turrets of the type 40P8 were delivered and build in - 1 x 40P8 Fest.Dienststelle Trier, 7 x 40P8 Fest.Dienststelle Homurg and 8 x 40P8 in the area of the Fest. Dienststelle Pirmasens.

Greetings

Daniel

Hi Daniel.

Thanks for the list. I suppose all of these turrets were scrapped after the war?

Hello Peter,

no 40P8 is known that survived the postwar scrap. "Only" 423P01, 35P8 and 20P7 are still left.

Hello Jos,

these are nice pictures!

The Sechsschartenturmbunker could be a R 114b or R 115b, the other one seems to be a R 20.

Could this be a 116b?
Extra entrance for the PAK gun on the side, with Nahkampf, no turret?

Hello Arthur,

this one is a special construction made out of a R 116b. As you can see, the Flank. Anlage is not placed beside the Schartenfront but in the rear part of the bunker. This way to adapt a plain standard design bunker for special purposes was done several times in this area of the Westwall, where this picture was taken. It is located in the Gaytal and is still there today as a ruin. But it is covered with earth and not accessible.

Greetings

Daniel
