Re: Westwall
Hello Jos,
thanks for this nice image. It seems to be a R 24 with one of the two additional Dreischartentürme visible. The R 24 with its open embrasures (Maulscharte) turned out to be too weak, so some of those were equipped with Dreischartentürme in front of each Maulscharte. Also the roof was reinforced with 1m of additional concrete.
Greetings
Daniel

Re: Westwall
I think Daniel is right.
It could be one of the R 24 to be reinforced. 1939 should be 55 Dreischartentürme provided to reinforce the weak structures.

Re: Westwall
Yes, we can... LOOOOLTH wrote:Hello,
did you notice the "Werk 28/24" above the entrance?
Is it possible to identify the bunker by that number?
The numbers are e special marking of the Oberrhein Front. It is a combination of the WH Number (Bauwerksnummer) and the Regelbau number.
Werk 28/24= WH 28 - Regelbau 24 (Doppel MG- Schartenstand, Oberrhein)
This Bunker was located south of Breisach, but is destroyed and covered.

Re: Westwall
Thanks Markus
That is new for me so the second number on the Westwall bunker is the Regelbau type .

Re: Westwall
Hi Jos,
the number markings in the westwall are very difficult and not the same in each section/position
in the Area of Trier we have markings with 5 number (Sample: WH 12 011), in the Saarland we have markings with 3 numbers (WH 312) an they change from sector to sector (sample 100 to 300, next sector 400 to 600) an so on...
We also have sectors with 100 and 700 number. This numbers are for the combat bunkers, the artillery observation has markings like S122 oder Sch1111, or b1, b2 and so on.
I had never seen bunkers outside the Oberrhein with the marking with the Regelbautyp on it.
You see, it is a very difficult numbering system. It was not used by all Festungsdienstellen like this. It was used to cover the hole strength of the Westwall.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Westwall
Hello Jos and Markus!
there are even more variations of numbering the bunkers:
You can still find within the D, B1 (Pionierregelbauten) and the Limes series bunkers in different parts of the Westwall with a 5 digit code. The first two numbers are for the year of construction and the last three digits are the number of the bunker itselft. After renumbering the bunkers in 1939 also those ones got a new number, so there are two different numbers visible in the entry sections of such bunkers.
From 1939 onwards the difference between five digit and three digit codes, described by Markus above, is that in some cases beside the bunker number (three digits) there was also the number of the Regimentsabschnitt mentioned (two digits).
In case of artillery positions bunkers were sometimes also numbered by capital letters like a, b, c, d etc.
Greetings
Daniel

Re: Westwall
Hi Daniel,
thx, that is what I forgot... Those numers (constrution year first) can you find in the Gasschleuse (gas lock), the 3 digits most on the Stahlträger (steel beams) of the Eingangsüberdeckung (Entrance covering) and on the walls near the entries.
Here are some pics.

Re: Westwall
Hi Jos,
I think it was at the westwall only on the regelbauten from 1939 til 1944.
Until yet, I only saw the "ST" marking at the regelbauten with 1XX (Neubauprogramm/ Aachen-Saar-Programm)

Hi Daniel,
Those were for sale, and the first one stands at 10,50 Euro... The runtime of the auction ends in 7 days...
I have a eye on it
I think, the pic comes to 30-50 Euro
Because you know, a "special" friend of us is collecting pics...
