Hi all,

A 21cm Skoda K39 barrel trailer in Camucia railstation, Italy
Does somebody know which german artilley units used this gun in Italy in 1943-44 ?

Hi sturm,

I think its the barrel for a an american 21cm or so gun. Photo listed with other photos of the americna gun. Also the breach area is different (note the eyer rings).

Best,
Nezar

Hi Nezar

I think Sturm is correct in his identication of this gun. If you look at the previous barrel limbers they have the same long wheel base with double tyres. The recoil system is on the carriage assembly and attaches to the barrel when the barrel is fitted to the gun. In the other photos the barrel has a cover over it but you can see the rasied area near the breech where the recoil locating lugs are. The US 8 inch gun and 240mm Howitzer were carried on a three axle limber and had the recuperator on top. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8_inch_Gun_M1#mediaviewer/File:8_inch_gun_2.jpg

I think you're right Clive, although I am tempted to think this to then be the barrel for the 24cm Haubitze given the length.

Nezar

Hello,

Anyone have more detailed information on 210mm Br-17 and 305mm Br-18? I'm really interested in how these guns found there way to Soviet Union(were they built in Czechoslovakia or the Soviet Union?)

I think 21cm K39 as 24cm H39 had a different muzzle gun barrel

You are right Sturm but if you look closely at photos of the muzzel area of the 21cm K39 you will see that there is a raised section at the very end. Smaller than on the 24cm H39 but still there.

Best,
Nezar
