Re: 7.5 cm F.K.M. 97 in Lafette C 39
Hi All
Was the shield only fitted to the 7.5 cm Pak 40 or did the 75mm Mle 97 also have the shield?
If it did has anyone a picture or a reference to a picture?
Cheers
Clive

Hello Clive
So far as I have seen , only the 7,5 cm Pak 40 M in L.M. 39/43 has a gunshield

Here is an interesting picture showing a 7.5 cm FKM 97 with a shield on a Siebelfähre. It looks like it is mounted indeed on a Lafette C39 (see the circular portion at the bottom).

Hi Emmanuel
I think you are right in your identification of the mounting.
However, the shield seems to be an improvisation - by using an old shield from elsewhere. The shield also seems to have been placed unsymetrically on the gun.

That is an interesting photo. It does show that the two guns despite sharing the same mounting did not share the same shield. Could the shield be unsymetrical as there are no crew members on the left side (as viewed in the photo) but on the right the gun layer is positioned?

I agree that the shield looks like an improvised one. And it also looks asymmetrical indeed

Interresting pictures! Thanks Jos.
The presence of the small rangefinder (70 cm?) on the second picture is intriguing. This rangefinder was more often seen with 2 cm and 3.7 cm Flak guns. So, is it an "arranged" picture or could the rangefinder have actually been used in conjonction with the 7,5 cm gun for AA defense?

Here's some pictures of a recovered gun sight and a shell to a 7,5 cm M97. The items were recovered from the minesweeper M-1104 that went down west of Kristiansand in 1942 after an accident.
Some pictures of the wreck here:
