The two boats on the background look like landing crafts (Marinefährprahm). It is possible the boat with the 75 mm is also a landing craft.

Hi Emmanuel,
When the navy-soldiers of a Marinepeilhauptstelle (MPHS - Navy SIGINT-unit) withdraw from MPHS Taormina/Sicily
to their new post near Rome, they used a few Fährprahm for their trip from Messina to Nettuno. This picture was
taken on one of these Fährprahm.
Best wishes
Rolf

Quite likely actually, 75mm Polish guns (license-built French m1897) were specified for these craft.Manuferey wrote:The two boats on the background look like landing crafts (Marinefährprahm). It is possible the boat with the 75 mm is also a landing craft.![]()

The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Clear images of diving in Krieg Transporter 12 - KT 12 said to have 2 7.5 cm F.K.M. 97 in Lafette C 39 - the gun is full of maritime organisms so it is not a metal in sight, but the form and mount can be perceived.

Note this KT had a gun different than for example KT 16

Hi Jos.
That zebra paint on deck might mean it is Italian - i am not aware if German ships in Mediterranean adopted that kind of identification.
It is also a bit difficult to perceive the ship form. It seems to have an elevated bow - i don't think image distortion explains all curvature, but those exausts seems strange.
