Hello!
There were different styles for Flugwachen. A wooden tower, a small "bunker" with a Plexiglas-Kuppel (cupola) or
these "concrete holes". They were called "Horchgrube" (listening hole).
Best wishes
Rolf

Hello!
Karl-Otto Hoffmann wrote in "Geschichte der Luftnachrichtentruppe" Band 2.1, Page 97:
Mitte 1940:
So, Horchgruben were wind- and noisecovered to their surroundings, but also good for acute hearing
of the sound of airplanes. First their diameter were 1.5 to 2 meters, later 5 to 7 meters.
Best wishes
Rolf

Re: LW plexiglass cupolas
Wow, very nice info!
Thanks for sharing.
We have a fluwa bunker in our latest restauration project, with square hole appr. 120X120 centimeter, with above it the glass" fishtank".
The walls inside were covered with wooden plates.
Will search for pictures tonight.

Hi Rolf,
You beat me to it. When I first saw the picture my immediate thought was "Horchgrube" .
They can still be found in well preserved sites in Denmark. Please note on the picture that the concrete slopes like a tub.

Nice picture!!
Do you think those girls have something to do with the fluwa?
Do you have a better quality version? We would love to show this one in our fluwa bunker in Scheveningen..
Gr, Tim
