Hi guys

This is my first post here so I'm not sure if I'm off topic. I'm planning to build a model railway based around the Eisenbahn batteries of the atlantic wall and am hunting for locations/information/photos. I'm looking to build a fully authentic, acurate model/scene. I've scoured the internet for information for the last three weeks and thought I'd read every page regarding the batteries until I found this thred!

I've been concentrating on Batteries E713, E765/E617 and E712 deployments for the moment. So far I have this...

E713 - Hydrequent Marble Quarry, 1 Dom Bunker, 3 tunnels (tunnel 1 with railway tracks for storage of one gun, tunnel 2 & 3 for storage of V2 rocket fuel), 2 x k5 - located on google maps

E712 - Pointe aux Oies (beach), 1 Dom Bunker, 2 x k5- unlocated

E765/E617 - Calais, 1 Dom Bunker, 1 Ammo bunker, 1 bunker of unknown type, 2 x k5 - located on google maps

This is probably a repeat of what's been said so far!!

The reason I've been locating them on google maps is I'm planning on visiting the locations and taking a few pictures. I'm also trying to locate some of fireing locations, railway track which I have had absolutly no luck.

Also, I keep reading refferences to the "coquelles tunnel" that was used as a shelter the guns, does any one know it's location or which battery used it?

Any help people could give me would be greatly appreciated and will post the pictures once I'm back (planning on going later on in the year)

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

First a welcome to this Forum , here some drawings from the Coquelles and Pointe aux Oies
At Coquelles there is (was) a tunnel and in the tunnel a stair to a bunker (622) on top of the quarry,
Pointe aux Oies there were 2 tracks see the red circles and the big black spot on the track is (was)a Dombunker .

Hi Jopaerya

Thanks you very much!! So quick as well. I've located all three Dom bunkers now + tunnel!

Hydrequent Quarry
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.81369 ... =0&src=msl

Calais
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.95436 ... =0&src=msl

Coquelles Tunnel
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.93143 ... =0&src=msl

Pointe aux Oies
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.78423 ... =0&src=msl

I think I'll be modeling the Hydrequent Quarry as I reckon I can get quite close for photographs and provides a challenging backdrop. I'm presuming that the K5's would be rolled out of the quarry for firing

I've finished reading this artice with lots of info on the quarry and it's use (translated)...
http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... l=fr&tl=en

I'm starting to research the loco's used by the batteries next. Thanks very much for the help and I'll keep an eye on the thread as the Eisenbahn Batteries have become a real facination for me.

Great infomation, I have a Post Card which would have been drawn (schetch) at this querry... and what was located there was not a K5, but rather the K12, which I have in my research found a lot of people do not realize existed. The K12 was used for across cannal into England shooting... a range tested and fired 71.5 miles... a shell found in Holland 56 miles away... in another article... The K12 was much bigger than the K5, and had the longest range of any gun used in the war... at least this I have read... I have spent over 4 days trying to locate this site... and this posting has the location info... one gun was here to start with, when the second gun came it was here also... at least as far as I have read so far... so if you do a model of this site, put a K12 in there... K5's elsewhere... Fun.

So what are your sources regarding to the K12.
Because Holland isn't 56 miles from this place.

Hello All

The reason could be that the round was in Holland , that during the German retreat in 1944 some K5 and one K12
got stuck in Sluiskil ( Holland ) they could not transported the big railway guns over the Schelde river and were
made unserviceable by demolition .

Thanks for your question...? I will look up the article describing this, if I can find it again... I think it is in a book, online... I will quote the text here as soon as I find it...

Maybe I can get the post card on here as well... which would have been draw at the querry... More later...

Ok, I went back and re-read the article. Here is the link:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/525613/German ... rld-War-II Look under Artillery...

It says the range was as I stated, 71.5 miles, depending on the weather, in one statement.

And as said above, evidently a complete K12 Rail Gun was found in Holland, not a shell. Sorry for the confusion.

See uploaded image of the post card... image... it is the K12... amazing card, as there were only two of these guns made... and it took me a while to find out about it. I saw only one other picture of this card, from someones collection of pictures, in 2003, uploaded on WebShots.

Does anyone know who the artist is? Or possibly its value of the post card? Seems to be a rare card, especially in its recording of such a interesting cannon, the Cross Canal Guns....

Hi guys

Going back Hydrequent quarry, I do believe there were two k5's and a k12. Although I don't know if there was enough room for all of them at the same time. The Dom bunker is 77m long which is shorter then others and the tunnel is only 100m. Not sure if they'd all fit?

Source - excelent write up of Hydrequent
http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... l=fr&tl=en

Also on the quarry, I've found this photo taken in 1945, must be after it was abandoned. I've email the owner of the site and has put me in touch with the source of the image. It's all being delt with in french so I'm relying on google translating for me!! I will post more info once I've obtained a higher res photo, but it depicts to dom bunker (with the earth sides) an what looks like a Vögele Turntable.

Ploghing ahead with the research into Hydrequent :o)

Hope some of this helps.
