Hi Jos,
If indeed there had been such a bunker at that location it cannot possibly be unknown. My guess - like I think yours is a s well - is that it is a U-boat bunker. It is my assessment that is has been subjected to some of the initial ineffective air attacks, and that the picture is post the 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler, since the officer are using the Nazi salute which was mandated in the Wehrmacht after this event, in lieu of the normal military salute. We must have a U-Boat bunker expert on-board who can help.

Hello
Its to small to be a uboatbunker as you can see the roof. The rails suggest a bunker for storage, so it should be a bunker for storage of torpedos.
Links below show the same type, but others have to figure out where the picture is taken
Regards
p.s.perhaps a to hasty conclusion..

Jos,
I try to look on my photos to night for any detail. It’s IJmuiden SBB1 or Rotterdam SBB Waalhaven.

Hi Jos and others,
if the bunker was really in the Channel area, then you're probably right, there were no U-boatbunkers on the Channel coast during WW2. I agree with Jack, it must be a Schnellbootbunker (S-bunker). Two where build on the Channel cost: one in Dunkerque and one in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Another one was build in Oostende (Belgium), but if we're speaking of the Channel coast, this is already a bit out of area. Both bunkers are gone now, but in Boulogne a torpedobunker is still left (at least some years ago it was). I guess the torpedobunker is to small to be the one on your picture, also because I'm not sure that trains could enter it (which was the case with the S-bunkers). However, the torpedobunker in Boulogne could have the same platting on the side. Also, the rail above the entrance of your bunker looks a bit like the ones from the torpedobunker, so maybe both have the same design. Boulogne was in a rather heavy air attack on 15 june 1944, which could explain the damage on your picture.
Good luck finding the answer...

Most bunkers for ships had a railway running to/thru it, don't think this could be a clue.
Never seen pictures of the SBB at Oostende, same goes for Dunkirk.
The one in Rotterdam also had a "square roof" and was heavily attacked in the war
(as all other S and R bunkers.....) the one in Rotterdam was "repaired" do not know if
this is really the truth, it comes from a resistance report.
IJmuiden the SBB I was alike the Rotterdam SB, it also had a square roof instead of
the rounded roof of SBB II of IJmuiden.
Greetings Jack.

Hello Jos,
thanks for the welcome! And nice pictures indeed... do you have anymore info or drawings from the Oostende bunker? How many boxes did it have?
I know the ones at Dunkerque and Boulogne were destroyed by the Germans, but what happened with the one at Oostende?
Blown up by the Canadians shortly ather the liberation?
Greets,
Barovic
