So as I asked here: posting.php?mode=quote&f=70&p=2106226
forttravel wrote:How about rotation of this gun placed as usual on eastern front in earth digged emplacement without concrete base? Old local guys from my area where was one of 15,5 cm gun batteries said that gun was put on big metal frame with rotation function. This is for sure a description of schwere Drehbettung. But it was similar device as for concrete emplacement or different bottom frame with some teeth to fix it to ground?
It is a typical solution to fix bottom part of rotation device direct to soil by 12 pieces of pegs what belongs to set.

Than we have more mixed options.
1. A upper part of Drehbettung placed on on concrete base with Pivoitzapfen a fixed rotation axis.
b3.jpg
2. More simplify option only with Pivotzapfen and a rotation beam only. Detailed drawing Jos posted here: download/file.php?id=410440&mode=view
b4.jpg
3. Intermediate version with "Pivotzapfen" and small wheels.
b5.jpg
All options could be joined with Schwenkwerk device: viewtopic.php?f=70&t=126843&p=2074539&h ... k#p2074539
All these options are quite clear, but we have in HKB 18./979 next one new option: kind of frame what joined functions of Pivotzapfen, upper part of Drehbettung, Zustangen and Schwenkwerk. Is it a typical device?

Tha last picture is a one-off construction done in Norway only. The prototype was made at Langesund Mechanical Workshop in mid-1941 in close cooperation with the Artillery Staff at AOK Norwegen. The system was tested with live firing from an emplacement north of the later Army Coast Battery, and after some slight modifications one battery set was produced and put up at Landehovden in Mandal west of Kristiansand. Due to lack of material in Norway the project was never carried on. Other 15,5 cm batteries of the first series (Spring 1941) were mainly put on concrete pedestals with their wheels and secured by a pivot bolt and stays. Later (1942-43) the drehbettung system for the heavier guns (carrying the wheels) came. So one has to look at the timeline because everything was not available at the same time.

Hi all,

An image from Ebay: 15cm K16. Were these platforms used only in coastal positions or also in field positions ?

I think in field positions as well on the eastern front it would seem, but perhaps it only looks that way because the sea is so far away!

From what I’ve seen normally a Schwere drehbettung but sometimes a pivot attaching the front of the gun carriage to a circulate concrete mount.

Best regards,
Nezar
