A difficult question about 24cm Skoda M16
Hi all,
According to the books "German Heavy 24cm Cannon. Development and Operations 1916-1945" of Wolfgang Fleischer
and "Skoda Heavy guns" of Michal Prasil, the Austro-Hungarian Army ordered 9 pieces of the 24cm Skoda M16 gun
(plus 2 replacement barrels). Up to the end of the World War 1, Skoda was able to manufacture and test-fired only
two pieces(plus one replacement barrel).
According to these two books, Czechs inherited these two es Autro-Hungarian guns and ordered 4 new guns to Skoda factory. These new guns had a new carriage slightly different from the old guns. However, in all the photos that appear in these books and in all photos that I have seen in the net (both in service with the Czech Army and German Army),
only see the new carriage, not the old.
The question is : Did Czechs produce new carriages for the two old cannons ex-Austro-Hungarian or its 6 guns are totally new?
Thanks.

Re: s. 24 cm K. (t)
Hi all,
I found these two images of this gun on Ebay:
In the second image the base box is already mounted in position and the vehicle is ready to place the carriage on the base box. The inner wheels of the Austro-Daimler generatorwagen fit on the rails mounted on the base

Re: A difficult question about 24cm Skoda M16
This is really difficult question. I can not find any information about producing new carriages for replacement of older ones. I can only deduce.Sturm78 wrote:The question is : Did Czechs produce new carriages for the two old cannons ex-Austro-Hungarian or its 6 guns are totally new?
But as 38cm howitzer used both these carriages as 24cm gun, it is possible that CS army at the end took new built carriages for 24cm gun and new carriages from incomplete and cancelled 38cm howitzers to replace in battle used older carriages.
