Bunkers - Le Havre Harbour Area.

Hello all

I just recently found this picture on the official site of the Le Havre Port Authorities.

Is this remains of a Stp.?

If so - what Stp. are we looking at here, and are they gone by now?

How many Stp. / Wn. were there around Le Havre, i ask because i do not have much information of that area.

Dont know if this link will work to a larger picture:

Hello

As said i have almost no references around Le Havre and south.

I have a very bad copy of the map:

"Schwerpunkt Le Havre - Stand 2.8.1943"

When looking at this, there are Stp. mentioned with HaL - HaK and HaH - what are the meaning of this different naming?

Hello Kurt

The meaning of HaL = Havre Landfront, HaK =
Havre Kustenfront and HaH = Havre Hafen .
The problem with Le Havre there are no good
German maps from 1944 only from 1943 .

Hello Jos

Thanks for the explanation.

No - you are right about the maps, i have only this one copy of a map from 1943 and it is really too bad to actually see the details.

Do you know the bunkers on the above picture? I think that picture are from year 2000 - but when you look at Google Earth today, they seem to have gone due to building on the Harbour.

I might think it possibly could be HaH 08 or HaH 09?

Anyone else have any documents and / or maps for this area and also nort and south of Le Havre i would be most interested.

Regards
Kurt

Hello

No - I was in doubt also. Hard to see if it is "concretethings" in the circle?

But there were Stp. in that area - right - but all gone now due to building on the harbour.

A postal card from 1950 of the same area (« Petrolhafen » for the Germans). It looks like a bunker in the red circle. What do you think ?

Dear Friends,

This a post war view of the area : you can see that nothing remains from the former MKB Petrol Hafen.

Hello

The Harbour Area of Le Havre was / consisted of:

HaH 01 to HaH 026

I assume that the molen / digue batteries are there, or most of them?

Is there anything left of the others at all today?

(Source: Alain Chazette - Mythé ou Realite).

PS: Anybody have maps of Le Havre Area - not easy to find any?

Dear Kurt,

Thanks for this very interesting website with pictures of Le Havre. Such pictures have a great historical value because most of the bunkers build in Le Havre harbour area had been destroyed just after the war. And you can see in the third picture that US Army engineer made the job !

The above pictures had been taken in the entrance of the harbour. Picture n° 1 show the batterie Nordmole, a former French battery with German schartenstands and O.P. under construction. The battery was maned by MAA 266 and equiped with 10,5 cm SKC 32 gun.

Picture n°2 show a special bunker build near the "Semaphore" (today Chaussée des Etats Unis). It is probably the bunker for the control of underwater mines situated in the entrace of the harbour.

Picture n° 3 show bunkers situated behind the "Semaphore" : the remain of a HQ bunker with a steel observation cupola (only a piece of the bunker remains with the cupola on the ground), and an other ST bunker behind.

I have more informations somewhere but I have to look for it !

Best regards from Le Havre,

Sébastien

Hello Sébastien

You´re welcome, just happy to be able to assist :D

"Information not shared - are information lost" - right!

I am also always on the look for information about Le Havre area concerning the German installations. I have visited Le Havre on several occations, and also visited som the of the places around the City and outside.

I know it is very difficult to find any informations, pictures and / or maps from that period - and i am very interested in any kind of info.

regards
Kurt
