Hi all,

Has anybody got any info/photos of the seachlight that was designed for fitting in the loopholes of a Sechsschartenturm.

Regards,

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm
We have an example here that I can take photos of for you. Any particular details you are after?

Hi Malcolm
Here's some pics courtesy of Ian Brehaut. The wooden base is a replica Ian built of a mounting designed for use with a tobruk.

Oh Yes 8-)
Nice one Paul :D

Do you push the handle at the back in and out to make the light on the end turn from side to side :?

Hi Malcolm
Yes, pull-push to pivot the lamp, and twist the handle to rotate. We're not sure how it connected to the electrics in the schartenturm. Presumably some sort of multi pin socket to make it removeable, with a switch fitted on the turret somewhere? Do you have this detail as we are interested in finding out? Let me know if you need any dimensions.

Regards
Paul

The searchlight was supposed to be connected to the 24 VDC "Ringleitung" of the copular with a 2-pin plug, but could also be powered by separate powersupply.
The searchlight itself had a 100 watt bulb with a effective range of 300 meters.

Most logical, the plug for the searchlight has to be the same as on the optics, which would make sense if all 24VDC equipment was connected to the same "Ringleitung" (Ring circuit in English?). You find these sockets several places in the turret, under each loophole + next to the optics....

Thanks Erik
Do you think the searchlight had it's own switch, or just turned on when plugged in to that socket?

Hm... Good question, but I can only guess I`m afraid....
I`ve only seen one swich on this entire "Ringleitung" but to be honest I haven`t studied it in detail. My guess is that it could be switched on/off somehow without pulling the plug.

Hi,

Is the switch the small silver rod sticking out of the top of the opperating handle :?

Looks like there is also a hole for the cable to enter the handle just below it at this point.

The person in the photo is almost pointing at it :)

It would be logical that it plugged into the turret ringmain for the optic lights but could the 24 volt ringmain support a 100 watt bulb :?

Hi Malcolm
According to Ian that is just a retaining pin for the handle, and the cable simply passes down the centre of the rod to get to the lamp. Think that's why on the picture you have, (that doesn't exist) that it has a bakelite switch bodged on the top of it. This wouldn't of been needed if the lamp had a built in switch.

Paul

Hi All
Close up of the handle. Looks like from the threaded holes that there must of been some sort of toggle switch which would make sense as this could be operated with your thumb while holding the handle.

Paul

I have been put onto this by a friend, I believe I have some photos of the searchlight being demonstrated at the Val de la Mare bunker in Jersey. The fitting was owned at the time by Martin Walton.
I will try to find the photos.
