Luftschutz Oostende

Post by Barovic » 05 Feb 2008 20:20

Hello all,

here's another picture from e-bay.de from the Luftschutzbunker in Oostende, which is on page 55 of Rudi Rolf's blue book.

Any idea on its location? Leopold-II laan?

Regards,

Barovic

LS in Ostende

Hello Barovic

Another one of the same type is still existing today inside the Naval Barracks of Ostende (most probably Stp Tintenfish) together with a R502 that still has some of its armoured parts (quite rare in Belgium).

Is this the same one as in Zandvoorde ?

Hi Pierrot,

does the possibility for a visit exists? ( with your connections?).

I heard that parts of the navy barracks are going to be demolished.
Perhaps it would endanger the bunkers...

Pyramid Bunker

Post by pierrot » 12 Feb 2008 22:38

Peter, Bart, Buran,

Peter, you are absolutly right, a part of the naval barrack will be handover to the town of Ostende this year. Only the large building that shelter the Mines Warfare School will remain military ground (they destroyed then a beautiful R638 in 1956 when building that school). The fate of the bunkers is still unknown but I'm kept informed of the situation by one of my numerous spies

Bart, that's possible, but soon it will be no military ground anymore.

Buran, the pyramid bunker of Zandvoorde has indeed the same shape but the dimensions are totaly different. This one is quite much bigger and has 2 floors. I put another picture to give you a better idea of the size of this bunker (compare with the cars parked in front). A bonus picture for the lovers of armoured parts, the original doors that are still in use today in the bunker.

Greetings

Pierrot

Hi Pierrot,

Well, let's hope there is a way to safe them from possible demolition.
Especially the L.S.-bunker are quite interesting. Somewhat similar
to the ones near Gent.

Pierrot and Buran, nice to see these pictures.

Peter, didn't know about the existence of LS-bunkers near Gent. Could you give me some more info? Location (harbour?)? Maybe a picture?

Thanks.

Barovic,

Have a look on the next link, open the PDF File "Kruiwagen IV-4" and you will find a report about the remaining bunkers that can be found around Ghent, including a picture of the one you are looking for..
