Is the '36' in 3.7cm Pak 36 just post-war fantasy?

Post by Simon Orchard » 02 Jan 2003 17:48

Hi
I recently got into a discussion over the correct name for the 3.7cm Pak 36 or 3.7cm Pak 35\36.

The argument boiled down to wether or not the '36' was actually ever used by the Germans during the war? If not why, when and where did the 36 and for that matter the 35\36 come from?

If it was used has anyone ever seen the weapon being referred to with the number '36' on wartime German documents or photographs?

Regards

Simon
