Re: Merzig bunker
Hello Jose85
Here is a plan of the Merzig bunker (copy from “Der Westwall” by Bettinger&Büren).
The bunker had two levels, but only the lower level is shown, because the upper level was already demolished, when the bunker was measured. It is not mentioned in the book, that the gun was a Festungspak.
greetings Lars

Re: 624
So this level shown is the ground level, then you got the gun level and then the coupola.
But on this layout of the groundlevel I do not see a stair going up.

Merzig Brückensicherungsanlage
Hello Patrick
Yes you are right, there was an access from Room#4 to the upper level (please see attached text from the B&B book). Probably there was a metal staircase or ladder.
The position of the access on the drawing is probably not correct, because it must have been gone when the bunker was measured. It seems unlikely that it was situated right in front of the sliding door.
According to the text, there was an entrance door on the back side of the bunker (the entrance is visible on one of the photos in b00nfire’s post from 04 Apr.).
According to B&B, this entrance lead to the upper level, but when you look at the photo, it seems more likely that it lead to the lower level. If this is true, then Room#6 is a gas lock.
Also, if the entrance lead to the upper floor, it would have lead directly into the room under the 20P7 cupola, which seems unlikely.
Greetings Lars

Re: 624
I am not convinced.
Room 6 on the plan of Lars, says that above room 6 is the cupola, which would mean that room six is also the gun room. But that is not the case.
I cleaned the ebay picture a little and put "levels" into it. based on the fact that at last the gun opening would lead to one level.
Before the gun opening you get the "nose", which in the picture is seen by the lather that is put against it. That point then would be "room six".
Looking at the contour: the most upper level can not be more the the entrance to the cupola, since the shape is much smaller.

Hello wimve
I do not understand exactly what you mean, but I have made an attempt for a reconstruction (se attachment). Do you agree?

This makes more sense indeed.
But the lower entrance level is now 180 degrees turned around, compared with the drawing posted earlier.
Thanks,
Wim
